Project Background
Council previously engaged with the community in 2023 to investigate issues and opportunities facing tennis locally. The initial engagement phase explored tennis participation, trends, regional provision of tennis infrastructure and future demand. This included online engagement, interviews with facility managers and meetings with Tennis NSW and neighbouring Council’s.
The project team applied these previous engagement findings when developing the new Draft Tennis Strategy now on exhibition (this page). As well as incorporating learnings from an audit of Council's existing tennis infrastructure, strategic priorities, and research into demographic and population projections.

The purpose of the Draft Tennis Strategy is to provide a clear understanding of current tennis facilities, ensuring provision meets the needs of the CIty’s growing population. The strategy’s recommendations and actions will seek to improve the sustainability of our facilities and increase overall participation in tennis City-wide.
Council’s vision is to provide an accessible and sustainable network of tennis facilities that meet the needs of the community now and into the future. The vision is underpinned by the following objectives that will guide Council’s provision and operation of tennis facilities:
Improve access to tennis facilities and increase opportunities for informal participation.
Develop greater understanding of tennis facility use.
Improve sustainability of Council’s tennis facilities.
