Apex Park Redevelopment - Concept Design

About the project

The Apex Park Redevelopment Project, located at the intersection of Allandale Road and Maitland Road Cessnock, aims to deliver much-needed improvements to the purpose and usability of the Park.

The project involves the revitalisation of Apex Park into a safe, attractive and welcoming community space highlighting the entry to the Cessnock CBD.

In consideration of the Park's location across the road from Cessnock Pool and close to local businesses, the project includes pedestrian and accessibility improvements with improved walkways, a new footbridge and plaza structure, a resurfaced carpark, landscaping, lighting and seating elements for community recreation and use.

This project is fully funded by the Australian Government's Regional Precincts and Partnerships Program.

Community engagement and design consultation

The Project began with the Apex Park Masterplan was adopted by Council in 2022, following consultation with Mindaribba Local Land Council during 2020.

Starting in 2025, Council's Infrastructure Team together with Collins Williams as the Principal Design Consultant have been working through an early design and technical investigation phase in consultation with Transport for NSW and Hunter Water.

The project team have been seeking early feedback by doorknocking and visiting nearby businesses, residents and user groups, and providing project updates and consultation opportunities with direct stakeholders.

Council's Community Engagement Team will be popping up around the area to encourage community input into the refined design:

• Weird is Wonderful Market at The Valley Brewhouse, 10am to 3pm, Sunday 20 September
• Apex Park, 2pm to 4pm, Wednesday 23 September
• Cessnock Village, 4pm to 6pm, Thursday 24 September

About the concept design

The current concept design of the project includes the following key features:
