Community-Informed Improvements
Following extensive consultation with the community, Cessnock City Council has adopted the Branxton Oval Masterplan on 8 October 2024. The plan aims to enhance Branxton Oval and its surroundings, making it a more vibrant and welcoming space for visitors and residents alike.
Thanks to your feedback, five key updates were made to the original draft:
Smaller/shorter trees within the RV Park area to avoid shading RV solar panels.
Removal of two proposed trees on either side of the Croquet Club.
Addition of a gate between the sports field and the Croquet Club to allow lawn mower access.
New boundary fence installed at the northern boundary of the Croquet Club.
Increased size of the Eastern Park picnic shelter, now including a BBQ (same style as the Northern Park).
In developing the Branxton Oval Masterplan, Cessnock City Council considered the impacts of flooding and risks associated with grass fires. NSW Crown Lands is also a significant stakeholder/landowner in this project, and their site requirements were carefully integrated into the plan.
The Cessnock City Council General Manager received a letter from the President of the Central Hunter Business Chamber requesting that Council explore options to increase visitation to Branxton RV Park and Branxton CBD. Following this request, Council conducted a site survey of Branxton Oval, consulted with Crown Lands, received flood modelling advice, and obtained a preliminary bushfire assessment.
This advice and information allowed Council to develop the Branxton Oval Masterplan, which was adopted on 8 October 2024. The Masterplan includes the following design features:
Long vehicle parking locations to enable Branxton to be an RV Friendly Town
Short vehicle parking locations for recreation and events
Flood-resilient picnic locations with easy egress
Feature tree planting and landscaped recreational areas
Formalised access roads and paths
Lighting to minimise anti-social behaviour
Water access points
Simple covered stage area for community events
Electricity access points
Upgraded shower facilities within the amenities block
