Consultation has concluded
The Cessnock Local Environmental Plan 2011(LEP) contains provisions that guide development in our Local Government Area. This Planning Proposal enacts the recommendations of the Cessnock City Council Environmental Zoning Framework adopted by Council in 2021 and maintains consistency with Department of Planning and Environment guidance.
The Proposal seeks to carry out the following amendments to the Cessnock Local Environmental Plan 2011:
Amendments to relevant zone objectives and permissible land uses relating to the following zones:
C2 Environmental Conservation Zone
C3 Environmental Management Zone
C4 Environmental Living Zone
The Planning Proposal is on public exhibition from Wednesday 31 August 2022 to Wednesday 26 October 2022 and can be viewed here, and at the following locations:
Council’s Administration Building (Customer Services Section);
Cessnock City Library;
Kurri Kurri Library
Previous Consultation
Extensive Community Consultation was undertaken during the development of the Environmental Zoning Framework, that made recommendations to be implemented by this proposal. Consultation for the Environmental Zoning Framework included Community Reference Groups, a Have Your Say project webpage, community values survey and targeted stakeholder engagement.
Gateway Determination
On August 2nd 2022, the Department of Planning and Environment issued an amended Gateway determination enabling Council to place the Planning Proposal: Cessnock Conservation Zone Framework on exhibition for a minimum of 30 days. This is consistent with Council’s resolution to proceed with this Planning Proposal at its ordinary meeting held 17 November 2021.
