Streets and houses in Cessnock

Project Information

Dowlan Lane provides a connecting link to a network of paths recently constructed in Cessnock. Dowlan Lane is on the path route between Bridges Hill Park and the Cessnock CBD. Also, the lane is on the path route between Bridges Hill Park and Wine Country Drive. To encourage use by pedestrians, Council is proposing to turn Dowlan Lane into a shared zone.

A shared zone is a road where the space is shared safely by vehicles and pedestrians. The conversion of Dowlan Lane to a shared zone will mean that vehicles and cyclists travelling along the lane will have to give way to pedestrians.

Drivers will be made aware that Dowlan Lane is a shared zone by markings on the road surface and signs erected at the entrance to the lane at Koree Street, Victoria Street and Cumberland Street.

The maximum vehicle speed in a shared zone is 10 km/h. Car parking will only be permitted in Dowlan Lane where there are marked parking bays. The proposal to convert Dowlan Lane into a shared zone will be reviewed by Transport for NSW who must also provide approval for the 10 km/h speed limit.
