Council’s Cemetery Policy outlines the principles that underpin how Council manages our cemetery operations, in order to comply with legislative requirements and to provide a dignified and responsive cemetery and memorialisation service to the community. The Cemetery Policy is supported by Cemetery Masterplans that guide the development of each cemetery under the care, control and management of Council.
The Cemetery Policy was last updated in March 2022 and is now due for periodic review. The draft updated Cemetery Policy includes administrative and formatting updates and accommodates recent changes made to the legislative and regulatory requirements for cemetery operators in NSW.
Updates to the Policy
Key updates to the Policy include clarification of details around interment (burial) rights and the inclusion of requirements for the interment of animal remains, pursuant to recent updates to section 69A and 106 of the Cemeteries and Crematoria Act 2013, which allow for animal remains to be interred within cemeteries.
Exhibition period
The draft updated Cemetery Policy is on public exhibition for a period of 28 days, between Monday October 27th and closes on Monday November 24th, 2025.
The exhibition period has now closed. Thank you for your interest.
