Introduction

Cessnock City Council is committed to making our community more inclusive and accessible for everyone.

We are developing the Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2025-2029, and we are grateful to our community for their input so far.

Council can make better decisions when people with disability share their challenges, ideas, knowledge and experience.

Previous Community Engagement

We have been developing our next Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) 2025-2029 in consultation with the community since July 2024.

During the Community Engagement stage of this project, we received fantastic feedback from our community. We received this feedback in the following ways:

  • Together Cessnock (this page) which included an online survey and a discussion board
  • Direct email invitations to participate
  • One-on-one meetings (via phone and in person)
  • Engagement at community events
  • Social media engagement
  • Stakeholder/agency meetings

We consulted with over 350 people including people with disability, family and friends of people with disability, carers and local service providers.

We received great feedback about:

  • What Council is doing well
  • What Council could improve on
  • What Council should do more of
  • The challenges faced by those with disability navigating life in our Local Government Area
  • Ways Council can help others to foster an inclusive community for all

Draft Plan now on public exhibition

We are excited to present to our community the draft Disability Inclusion Action Plan for 2025-2029, created based on the feedback we received from you. The next step is to hear what you think about the draft Plan before it can be adopted by Council. Then we can get to work making the actions in the Plan a reality.

Council can make better decisions when people with disability share their challenges, ideas, knowledge and experience. We are grateful for your feedback on this draft Plan.

This Plan is now open for your feedback until Friday 18 July 2025.

You may provide your feedback by making a submission via survey below the text and video following.
