FAQs
Why do we need Flood Warning Systems?
The Floodplain Risk Management Study & Plan process (undertaken in accordance with the NSW Floodplain Development Manual) recommended the installation of flash flood warning systems in areas of highest flood risk.
The primary purpose of these installations is to protect life.
How do flood warning systems work?
Siren based Flood Warning Systems are activated by water levels in creeks. Once certain levels are reached, the systems activate sirens to alert residents that live within flood prone areas of rising creek levels, and/or of a flood emergency.
All other proposed infrastructure being delivered is to inform Council & the emergency services.
What will happen when the Flood Warning System triggers
Once certain (programmed) creek levels are reached, the siren will automatically alert.
What should I do when I hear the alarm?
Follow your own flood plan if you have one. If your property lies adjacent to the creek, gather essential belongings and your animals, evacuate your dwelling & head to higher ground. Further information will be provided to residents via community brochures and fridge magnets.
Will the Flood Warning Systems need to be tested?
Yearly siren testing is necessary.
