Project Information

Council has worked with landscape architects Gallagher Studio to develop a draft masterplan for Kurri Kurri Central Sports Precinct that improves the quality of existing sports facilities and provides more opportunity for informal recreation.

Many users of the Kurri Kurri Central Sports Precinct, and community members provided insights and feedback during engagement held in January and July 2023 which has been used to inform the draft masterplan.

What has happened

In Stage 1 we had 410 responses to an online questionnaire through Together Cessnock. We asked you how you are currently using the park precinct, what you like about the park precinct, and what you think could be improved. You can see the response to Stage 1 here.

In Stage 2, We used the information gathered in Stage 1 to develop 5 overarching principles to guide the development of the Masterplan and 7 design ideas to improve Kurri Kurri Central Sports Precinct. Each idea has images showing what this idea could look like, and/or a drawing showing the location.

In Stage 3, we used your feedback to develop a draft Masterplan which was exhibited, with further opportunity for your input.

The draft of the Kurri Kurri Sports Precinct was on exhibition until Friday 16 February 2024. You can see the details of the Exhibition Period here.

What is next

The submissions from the Exhibition period will be responded to and compiled to support, or influence the finalisation of the Kurri Kurri Central Sports Precinct Masterplan.
