Mayor Jay Suvaal and Deputy Mayor John Moores at the BMX Facility site

Cessnock City Council is proud to announce the construction commencement of Stage 1 of the upgraded Cessnock Regional BMX Facility. This project is identified within the Carmichael Park Masterplan and is expected to both improve and provide high-quality riding facilities for all members of the community. The works will incorporate track upgrades and supporting infrastructure.

The BMX facility will be open to visitors of all skill levels and will be located near a soon to be constructed multipurpose court which will create an active youth precinct at Carmichael Park, Bellbird. The project construction timeframe is currently expected to be approximately 4 months (weather permitting).

Stage 1 of this project is made possible thanks to the NSW Government’s Resources for Regions Round 8, receiving funding of $250,000 to undertake works to upgrade Cessnock Regional BMX Facility, and Council is seeking further funding for Stage 2.

In the Council meeting held on 19 April, Councillors also nominated to formally name the upgraded facility the 'Neville Tomlinson BMX Facility', after the late, well-known community figure Neville Tomlinson, who served as Bellbird Fire Station Captain for 37 years between 1971 and 2008. Use the submission form below, to have your say on the proposed name of the facility.
