The Plan seeks to provide a framework for the development and future provision of open space and recreation facilities that considers demand, distribution, diversity, quality and resourcing. Once finalised, the Plan will inform Council decision-making on where, when and how we develop our open space and recreation facilities in the future to ensure provision is equitable, sustainable and continues to meet community needs.

About the project

Council is currently reviewing our Recreation and Open Space Strategic Plan 2019.

Our open space and recreation facilities contribute to the liveability of our city, provide opportunities for connection, and deliver positive social, health, economic and environmental benefits to community and visitors. They provide locations for people to access nature, play, relax, socialise, exercise, develop skills and compete in sport.

The Plan will capture public spaces owned or managed by Council across the Cessnock local government area including aquatic facilities, indoor sports centres, parks, sportsgrounds and other open space and recreation areas.
