Why is the Black Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan being updated now?
The Black Creek Floodplain Risk Management Study and Plan is being updated to ensure Council has current and accurate information on flood behaviour and risk, using modern flood modelling standards, updated survey data and the latest climate change guidance. The update will help Council, emergency services and the community better understand flood risks and plan for existing and future development.
What are the next steps?
After the community answers the survey, Council will use this information to calibrate their flood model which is used to predict flood behaviour. Once Council has prepared the Flood Risk Management Study and Plan, we will take this to Public Exhibition where the community can review and make comment. This is expected in Mid to Late 2027.
Why are Flood Management Studies and Plans beneficial?
Flood Management Studies and Plans are beneficial as it enables relevant public authorities, emergency services and landowners to plan for and mitigate against flood risk with the most up to date information.
It also supports Councils to apply for grant schemes to be able to afford to implement mitigation measures, and enables Councils to know where resources should be prioritised to provide the best flood mitigation response based on the latest research.
