FAQs
Where will the skatepark be located?
The skatepark will be located within Cliftleigh Meadows District Park on William Tester Drive, Cliftleigh. The skatepark will be located adjacent to the playground and picnic shelters.
Why do we need a skatepark at Cliftleigh?
Councilʼs Skate and BMX Strategy 2020 was developed to provide direction on the future provision, development and management of wheeled sports for the Cessnock Local Government Area. The Strategy identified the need for a local level skatepark within the Kurri Kurri Planning Area and proposed Cliftleigh Meadows District Park as the location.
Why do we need a concept plan for Cliftleigh Meadows Skatepark?
Developing a concept plan for Cliftleigh Meadows Skatepark provides opportunities for community to have input into how they want to use the space, what the skatepark looks like, and the features and elements that will be incorporated into the skatepark design. The finalised designs will inform the construction of the skatepark.
How will you fund the implementation of the designs?
Once the designs for Cliftleigh Meadows Skatepark are completed, Council will be in a position to investigate funding options for the construction of the facility including grant funding and developer contributions.
Has there been any Community Engagement on this project?
Community engagement was undertaken during the development of Council's Skate and BMX Strategy (2020) and substantial engagement was held with young people through workshops and questionnaires. Engagement data indicated that there was a preference for transition and street style elements at skateparks and future designs should be inclusive of all wheeled sports (e.g. scooter and BMX riders).
