What are the current facilities available the pool?
Cessnock Pool
Branxton Pool
What previous work has been done?
Cessnock and Branxton Pool are open during the summer season which begins in the end of September and closes at the end of March each year. Current opening hours and season dates have been designed by outcomes of research and strategic review when Council has previously undertaken a more formalised service review.
Previous reviews looked at best practice and benchmarking of public pools as well as community consultation themes and feedback in order to develop and strengthen pool operations and services offered. This was combined with the outcomes of community consultation while undertaking the Cessnock Pool Masterplan in 2019 to develop current operational and management plans.
How will feedback be used?
Your feedback now will be used to check we have the balance right between maximising community use and achieving the strongest position for financial sustainability of the facilities which minimises any potential impact on ratepayers.
Feedback will be considered in planning for the next pool season together with budget requirements, potential infrastructure limitations and staffing availability.
Who currently uses the pool? What about swim clubs?
Our pools are used by all ages for regular or occasional recreation and exercise. In additional there are dedicated user groups for each pool who run programs, competitions, host group bookings, school carnivals and other events.
Cessnock Pool is home to the Cessnock Amateur Swimming Club, Cessnock Masters Swim Club and the Coalfields United Amateur Swim Club.
