Project Background

Cessnock City Council is working with landscape architects from Moir Studio to develop a concept plan for improvements to Kitchener Poppethead Park.

Kitchener Poppethead Park is a unique regional park in the village of Kitchener, well-loved by both residents and visitors.
It’s a place for:

  • play
  • bushwalking
  • bike riding
  • picnics
  • social gatherings
  • community events

The park also holds historical significance as the former site of the Aberdare Central Colliery, with key heritage structures still present in its scenic natural setting.

Project Update (May and October 2025)

The community came together to give feedback at the in-person pop up on Thursday 20 February 2025 at Kitchener Poppethead Park. Moir Studio took the feedback and incorporated it into the draft concept plan.

Feedback was sought from the community on the Concept Plans during a public exhibition and community consultation period from 6 February to 5 June 2025. The concept plan has now been endorsed in October 2025.
