Cessnock City Council is proposing to grant a licence in accordance with section 47 of the Local Government Act 1993, and is required to place this proposal on public notice.

Cessnock City Council is seeking applications from interested parties to take on the licence to manage the Cessnock Civic Indoor Sports Centre.
Any person can make a submission in writing to Cessnock City Council concerning the proposal during the period specified in this notice, by following the instructions below. Before granting a licence, Cessnock City Council will consider all submissions made. If an individual would like to make a submission by way of objection this option is available in the submission process.
Why is Council undertaking a public notice?
The Local Government Act 1993 sets out the process and conditions for leasing or licensing Community Land, including the requirements to exhibit a public notice for such a proposal.
Why is Council proposing to grant this licence?
The Council is committed to addressing the diverse and evolving recreational needs of our community, while promoting social connections and enhancing overall wellbeing through accessible and inclusive facilities.
Granting a license is not uncommon practice for the management of community and sporting facilities. For instance, Cessnock City Council has a variety of license agreements with partners to manage a range of venues across the LGA such as the Cessnock Sportsground, Weston Bears Park, and Kurri Kurri Sportsground.
Who currently holds the licence for the Civic Indoor Sports Centre?
There is currently no licence in place for the Civic Indoor Sports Centre. Several organisations hire the venue on a casual basis, with Council currently managing all bookings
How does the granting of this licence affect me?
The proposed Licence Agreement will permit the use of a person or group to occupy the Licensed Area for the term of the agreement, and in accordance with the plan of management.
The person or group that is granted the Licence to the facility is able to manage and accommodate bookings under the terms of the Licence.
