Draft Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2026 - 2031
We're planning for the next five years of waste services in Cessnock, and we want your feedback on the Draft Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2026-2031.
Last October and November we reached out to the community with a waste survey, both online and in person, to hear the things that are most important to you when it comes to waste services. Your survey feedback was compiled into a report which was then used to inform the creation of the Draft Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2026-31.
The below are the top 3 takeaways in the Draft Waste Strategy:
- Planning to keep weekly collection for red-waste and green-organics bins
- Detailed investigation of bulk kerbside pick-up
- Aspiring to divert 80% of waste from landfill.

You can make a submission using the online form located below or by clicking this link.
The exhibition period will run from Friday 21 March until Friday 2 May 2025. Should you intend to make a submission please quote “Draft Waste and Resource Recovery Strategy 2026 - 2031”. Submissions should be addressed to The General Manager and can be submitted via:
- Email to council@cessnock.nsw.gov.au;
- Post to PO Box 152, CESSNOCK NSW 2325
Any views expressed in written submissions will be considered by Council before a final decision is made.
